Freya, her name meaning lady, is not only the goddess of love, sex and fertility but also gold, sorcery, cats, death and battle. She houses the battle-slain, sharing half with Odin, in a great meadow she rules over called Fólkvangr. It’s name means people-field or army-field.
Sessrúmnir is Freya's Hall and her wain is drawn by cats. Her brother is the god Frey and her father is Njord. She is of the race of the gods called the Vanir but after the tribal war between the gods of the Aesir and the Vanir she became an honorary member of the Aesir clan. Her mother is never mentioned but it is thought that her and Fray's mother is the goddess Nethris.
One of Freya’s symbols is the heart shape. Her necklace is Brisingamen and she is married to the god Odr. Odr is believed to be none other than Odin, king of the gods, himself.
Freya has two children with Odr named Hnoss and Gersimi.
Freya owns a magical falcon skin that can allow her to fly over the nine worlds. There is also a legend that she was the witch Gullveig, meaning the lust for gold. Before the war between the Aesir and the Vanir tribes it was told that Gullveig came to Asgard and the gods burned her thrice after spearing her. She came back to life all three times more powerful than before. It is said that this is what started the war between the Aesir and the Vanir. After the conflict Freya taught Odin seidr magic, which is able to weave the fates of gods and men.
