Replica Silver Coins from Ireland, Hiberno-Norse, Sihtric III Olafsson, Penny, Dublin.
This silver Penny from Ireland features a draped bust of Sihtric III Olafsson facing left, with a crozier-like object behind in the field. The coin belongs to the Phase II period (1015-1035) of Hiberno-Norse Kings. The obverse showcases a cruder Sihtric style legend surrounding the bust. On the reverse side, there is a long voided cross with tri-crescent ends, a central pellet, and a small pellet in each quarter. The legend on the reverse includes a blundered Dublin mint signature. This coin is a unique and historical piece that reflects the artistry and craftsmanship of the era.
Sihtric Olafsson, famously known as "Silkbeard", the son of Olaf Cuaràn, the mighty King of York, Northumbria, and Dublin. Born into a lineage of royalty, Sihtric's fascinating story unveils the intricate web of alliances and power struggles of medieval Europe. His mother, Gormflaith Ingen Murchada, adds a layer of complexity to his narrative as the former wife of Mael Sechnaill, King of Meath and High King of Ireland. Sihtric's father, Olaf Cuaràn, reigned over Dublin with authority and vision from 952 to 980. The "Silkbeard Legacy" Collection pays homage to this intriguing historical figure with its luxurious and regal designs that reflect the grandeur and drama of Sihtric's life. Step into the past and adorn yourself with the essence of Silkbeard's royal lineage.
