Thor's Hammer - Mjolnir
Capable of leveling mountains, Thor's hammer is one of the most powerful weapons in existence. The divine thunder weapon. Thor's hammer is called Mjolnir which can be interpreted as 'the grinder or crusher'.
Forged in Valhalla by the dwarves Sindri and Brokkr.
Sindri and Brokkr were brother dwarves that were called into contest by Loki fashioned as a bet, Loki bet his head that the brothers would not be able to create items that were more beautiful than that of the 'Sons of Ivaldi'. These dwarves were responsible for making Odin’s spear 'Gungnir' and Frey's boat Skioblanir. This contest was to be judged by the gods. Despite Loki's constant interfering with the creation of Mjolnir, the dwarves won the bet.
The hammer was then presented to Thor with the following attributes:A weapon that never fails and always returns to it's owners hand
Creator of thunder and bane of the giants.
Thor's ability to create powers of a storm, causing rain, thunder and lighting. Using the storm's energy to produce a devastating blasts of energy that can cause god-like damage. Spinning Mjolnir in a circle allows Thor to open portals to other dimensions. With the hammer Thor is able to fly as well.
Worn as a pendant by the pagan Vikings.
To honour their god Thor.
Other than wearing the pendant there were many ways the Vikings honoured their gods. There were also sacrificial sites that the Vikings believed to have particularly strong contact with the gods at these locations. Ceremonies were held after sacrifices were made where drinking mead, singing songs, and reading poems was ways to honour the gods and honour the dead
At first glance, the hammer of Thor is merely a slab of iron; a massive, beautiful mallet, to be sure. But only a mortal tool.
Encased within it, however, is the primordial power of thunder. It’s crack signals the complete destruction necessary for all resurrection and cosmic creation to occur.
The resonance of the ancient symbol of Thor’s hammer is still alive and relevant today. Why?
Because beneath our somewhat modest appearances, all of us contain the power of Thor within us. The power of thunder and lightning within us.
Silent storms shift and move beneath our public exteriors, sometimes never to be witnessed by human eyes except for in fleeting moments.
These moments define us.
A shred of Truth confessed with a directness of gaze despite our trembling. A mother’s resolve to protect her children against all odds in the face of danger. An artist’s spirit, never dulled despite the judgments and criticisms of those around him. A resignation letter delivered without apology. A single scream released in a moment of aching, naked freedom.
What is your Thor’s hammer?
How can you bring the hidden force of your own internal storms into expression? How will you use your Godhood to effect the world?
Keep this physical representation of Thor’s hammer by your side as a reminder that you ARE that power.
And let loose your thunder and lightning wherever you can, lighting up the whole world with your hidden strength and eternal authority.
