Replica Coins from Viking Age York, England, UK.
NEW SMALLER SIZE TO REPRESENT THE ORIGINAL COINS.
Silver coloured small replica Viking coins depicting a sword one side and Thor's hammer, Mjolnir on the other side. The runes above and below the sword spell out: 'SCI PETIIIIO' (Sancti Petri Moneta - the money of St. Peter) and the Thor's hammer side spell out: 'ERIVIITOI ' (Eboraci Civitas - City of York). The original coins date to around 921 - 927AD.
This iconic coin is thought to date to the period following Regnald's (c.919-c.921) death, most likely struck during the reign of Sihtric (I) Coach. With it's mixing of pagan and Christian references, the name of the first apostle and Thor's hammer and sword, this coinage reflects the competing influences within Viking culture at the time.
